Containers and Containerization
Containers serve multiple purposes, from addressing multi tenancy requirements to avoiding near zero downtime in data centers. The underlying principle is to have an image that contains just what you need with no extra software. In security parlance this equates to reducing the “attack surface”. Flexibility and low cost of containers is increasing its adoption rates. Tools like Swarms, Fleet and Kubernotes are the warriors of scale in adding ease to container handling. Clustered applications in containers like Elastic Search, Cassandra have a different set of problems to overcome. Besides scale, there are other challenges arising from variations of use cases in clustered applications. Tools like Compose provide means to handle some of these challenges while at other times workarounds exist. Making Clustered Applications work well in Containers and exploring mechanisms to overcome the challenges is desirable and possible.
