Jump Starting the Career After a Break
Career breaks are inevitable for majority of working women. The fast changing computing industry has been witnessing, a good percentage of women computing professionals leaving their works. The primary reasons for such career break are lack of enabling platforms and skill building opportunities. There have been tremendous positive changes in recent years with the emergence of freelancing platforms, online education platforms, organizations that especially focus on helping women start their second career, and big organizations with strong back-to-work programs. Unfortunately, quite often women are not aware of these enabling platforms and thus are not able to utilize them to re-build their career strategically. In this panel, we plan to present the changes and various opportunities. We present studies drawn from research publications, and data analyzed from the platforms to showcase the positive changes and opportunities and discuss how they can be leveraged for successful career re-starts of female employees.
