New Reign of Connectivity : Li-Fi and Green Cellular Networks
Where is cellular connectivity headed to? This session comprises of two presentations in this theme. The first one will provide an overview on “Green Cellular Networks”. There is a dire need to make the cellular networks “green”. From the manufacturing side, improved power efficiency of devices gives prolonged battery life and optimizations at the network operator’s side results in ecological and economic benefits. In this presentation, we review the techniques to attain green cellular networks like mechanisms for energy saving in base stations, improved network architectures like HetNet, using enabling technologies like cognitive radio, self-organized networks, smart grids etc. The second presentation in the series will explain Li-Fi. The session is meant to understand how Li-Fi works, the advantages that it can offer as compared to other similar technologies and the application areas that can make use of it at its best and what this means for the future.
